There are three major things that one needs to live: food, shelter and love. Your home is your shelter. If you decide for whatever reason that you want—or need—to sell your home and move to another, you need to say goodbye.

Once on the market, a home becomes a house. It’s a commodity like any other. Let go of your home with every task that you do.

We are emotionally attached to our shelter. Whether we like the house or not—you probably wish you had a new kitchen or a walk-in closet—it’s still “home.”  Saying goodbye might be easy, hard, or devastating. Yet this is a process that cannot be ignored.

It’s just like the “Laws of Attraction.” Positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into your life. The positive and absolute knowledge that you are ready to move on makes your “home” available to become a “house.”

Once on the market, a home becomes a house. It’s a commodity like any other. Let go of your home with every task that you do. While you are clearing clutter, getting rid of the things that you no longer use and removing personal items, each of these steps takes you closer to “goodbye.” By detaching from your home, you are making way for another. This may sound strange, but it’s not. You have to give your home permission to become a house and accept a new owner—hence, “the long goodbye.”

If you skip this step, your house may not sell!  And don’t overprice your house: Overpricing is not only the desire for more money, it’s the desire to hang on. There are a million excuses to not detach. Get these out of the way, focus on preparation, keep your eye on your next home and you will be successful.

Say “goodbye” and get ready to say “hello!”
