Hudson, NY never rests on its laurels.

Dubbed “the trendiest town in New York State” (and sometimes “the Brooklyn of Upstate”), it was recently highlighted by Travel + Leisure as one of travel editors’ “favorite getaways from New York City.” Once an 18th-century whaling hub, Hudson has transformed into a sublimely walkable village where historic charm meets modern cool.

Warren Street pulses with art galleries, chic shops, locavore restaurants, and standout antique stores, while the town’s architecture ranges from meticulously restored Dutch Colonial, Georgian, and Victorian homes to striking contemporary designs that merge cutting-edge aesthetics with modern comforts. Hudson’s evolution isn’t just about preserving the past—it’s about building a forward-looking, sustainable community that continues to attract residents from New York City, LA, and beyond.

A prime example of Hudson’s embrace of new architecture is Hudson Ridge.

Hudson Ridge, a glass-and-steel masterpiece, is on 25 private acres along Mount Merino Road, one of Columbia County’s most exclusive addresses. Offering sweeping Catskill Mountain views and just minutes from Warren Street, this is Hudson’s Gold Coast.

Designed in 2017 by Manhattan architect Mark Bearak and inspired by Pierre Koenig’s iconic 1960s Stahl House, Hudson Ridge is a minimalist marvel. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls dissolve the boundaries between indoors and out, framing panoramic vistas, while the great room seamlessly integrates a state-of-the-art kitchen, a sculptural fireplace, and a modernist living space. Two ensuite bedrooms capture mountain views in every direction, and outdoors, the pool and terrace extend the living space spectacularly.

Smart-home features, including integrated lighting, sound, climate control, and shades, make living effortless. With a short-term rental permit and proven income through luxury vacation rental company Wander, this property is both a lifestyle retreat and a savvy investment.

Minutes from Hudson Ridge, the Hudson culinary scene always rises to the occasion.

Alongside local favorites like Feast & Floret, Le Perche, and the restaurant and café at The Maker Hotel, Banque has recently redefined sensational dining. This historic bank turned chic French café epitomizes low-key luxe. From house-made breads and bonbons to creamy chickpea hummus with nacho kale chips or a salmon burger with slaw and crispy potato wedges, every bite tells a story with just the right amount of spice. Following a meticulous five-year restoration, Banque now serves as both a destination restaurant and a stylish community hub.

Hudson’s fashion scene has also leveled up and the art scene continues to thrive.

Opened in the Summer of 2024, Jamestown Hudson was founded by James Scully, a renowned casting director and fashion show producer, and Tom Mendenhall, former COO of TOM FORD, Brand President of Ralph Lauren and recently appointed CEO of Stella McCartney.  The boutique curates men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, and home furnishings from Ralph Lauren, Reiss, CDG, Yohji Yamamoto, and Issey Miyake. Recently, Jamestown hosted a pop-up for designer John Bartlett benefiting at-risk dogs, reflecting the founders’ mix of style and community—both human and canine.

And the Hudson art scene continues to flourish. Hudson staples like the Pamela Salisbury Gallery and Basilica Hudson sit alongside newcomers such as The New Gallery, which opened in 2025 on Columbia Street with Low Fidelity, a collection of iconic photographs by Bobby Grossman documenting Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Debbie Harry, and the downtown NYC scene of the 1970s and ’80s.

Also not to be missed: Klocke Estate.

This exhilarating 180-acre distillery, which opened in the summer of 2024, produces brandy and vermouth just minutes from Hudson and Mount Merino. Guests arrive via a dramatic mountain approach and are rewarded with sweeping views reminiscent of the South of France, plus an experience that spans a restaurant, bar, distillery, and private dining rooms.
