    The Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures. The New Year celebration is usually celebrated for multiple days, with the 2024 Lunar New Year beginning on February 10.

    Tied to the lunar calendar, the holiday began as a time for feasting and to honor household and heavenly deities, as well as ancestors. Each culture celebrates the Lunar New Year differently, with various foods and traditions that symbolize prosperity, abundance, and togetherness.

    2024 is the Year of the Dragon, the most unique zodiac sign symbolizing luck, strength, and health.

    The Westchester Association of Chinese Americans Celebrates the Dragon Year 2024

    The Westchester Association of Chinese Americans (WACA) is hosting a grand celebration of the Dragon Year 2024. Experience a day filled with immersive activities, including traditional handcrafting, engaging unique Asian games, mesmerizing performances on Chinese musical instruments, and an opportunity to indulge in a delectable food sampling.

    Lunar New Year Celebration at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center

    Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at a family event at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center. Activities include a red envelope giveaway, lion and Chinese dances, karate, Korean games, calligraphy, arts & crafts and more. Sponsored by the Chappaqua Library and the Town of New Castle.

    Year of the Dragon Lunar New Year Celebration at the Eastchester Public Library

    All are welcome to join the Year of Dragon Lunar New Year celebration, co-hosted by the Eastchester Public Library and the newly founded Eastchester Chinese Parents Association. There will be crafts, games and snacks for children and adults.

    Lunar New Year at the Hudson River Museum

    Kick off the Year of the Dragon at the Hudson River Museum with traditional Asian arts, crafts, demonstrations, and performances for all ages. An afternoon of festivities begins with the colorful ceremonial lion dance. A variety of workshops and performances follow, including making dragon drums, learning the art of origami, performances of Chinese folk dances, and a special showing of The Sky Tonight: The Skylore of China that features traditional Chinese constellations.

    Children's Celebration at the Stepping Stones Museum

    Join us at Stepping Stones Museum for Children as we celebrate the Lunar New Year with a day full of culturally rich festivities. Immerse yourself in the joy of Chinese traditions through special performances, hands-on activities and artistic expressions. A variety of activities are scheduled throughout the day.

    Chinese New Year at the New Canaan Library

    Celebrate Chinese New Year at the New Canaan Library. Join us in ushering in the Year of the Dragon with Chinese dances, demonstrations of traditional food, tea, and crafts. Local organizations and students will give insight into New Year’s customs such as the kitchen god, honoring ancestors, and the lantern festival. This informative and fun program is a partnership between The Organization of Chinese Americans, Fairfield County Chapter (OCAFC) and the Library.

    Chinese New Year Celebration at SoNo Library

    Explore the customs of Chinese New Year and immerse yourself in the enchanting “Big Race – a Zodiac story.” Enjoy dances performed by Li Garden Dance Company and the Connecticut Chinese Education Association (CCEA) dance group, discover your Chinese name written in Chinese calligraphy, enjoy playing with ancient Chinese toys, and capture memories with traditional Chinese costumes through photography.

    Fairfield Museum's First Annual Lunar New Year Celebration

    Families and friends of all ages are invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Fairfield Museum. Learn more about the Year of the Dragon and how people celebrate, explore “Creating Community,” the Fairfield Museum’s newly renovated exhibition, and join us for a lion dance, storytime with the Fairfield Public Library, live animals from Earthplace, a martial arts demonstration, a paper dragon craft, and many more hands-on activities.

    Commemorate the Year of the Dragon at Ferguson Library

    Join the Ferguson Library for a celebration of Lunar New Year 2024 commemorating the year of the dragon. The program will include Chinese, Mongolian, Thai and Korean classical and folk dances performed by members of Li Garden Dancing Group, Connecticut Chinese Dance Company and Korean Missionary Dance Group. Kayak Drummers will also perform on Korean modeum-buk. Snacks will be served.
