Bedford Chamber Concerts presents its 2017 finale tonight, Wednesday, May 3, in honor of Terry Elsberry, who is retiring after 22 years as rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Bedford. Reverend Elsberry’s strong support of Bedford Chamber Concerts over the past 17 years has made this music series possible.
The BCC is known for great music of the baroque, classical, and romantic eras, spiced occasionally with music of the twentieth century—or new music composed by BCC Music Director, Anthony Newman. Newman, one of America’s leading classical musicians, is internationally recognized for his contributions as organist, harpsichordist, composer, conductor, musicologist, and Bach specialist.
Tonight’s performance features the premiere of Newman’s rendition of Psalm 27, which he composed to celebrate Rev. Elsberry’s years of service to St. Matthew’s. The third segment of Handel’s Messiah, with its uplifting focus on the Resurrection, will also be performed. The concert will be held in the Fellowship Room of Saint Matthew’s at 8 pm. Tickets are $45 each.
