Dozens of artists will be coming to Rye on Saturday, September 16th, bringing with them their easels, paints, pastels and more to highlight the most beautiful parts of our town.

Organized by The Rye Arts Center and sponsored by Houlihan Lawrence, Painters on Location is a cherished community event. And what better time of year than early fall to capture the spirit of the community? Everyone has settled back in from summer vacation, the weather has cooled and the leaves are just starting to turn. The artists do a fantastic job of capturing it all. Each artist chooses their own location, be it downtown, a park, the shoreline, landmark or scenic landscape.

A free reception to view the still-wet works will take place later that day, at 5:00 pm, with a live art auction starting at 6:30 pm in the Performing Arts Room at The Rye Arts Center. Additional works by the artists will be on display in the Gallery starting Tuesday, September 5. At 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 7, a gallery tour will be held to give visitors the opportunity to view the works, which will be available for purchase through a silent auction closing directly after the live auction. Bidding paddles for the live auction can be purchased for $20 at the event.

Painters on Location is free and open to the public, so even if you’d like to simply come and marvel at the still-wet paintings, please do! The community is encouraged to visit artists “on location.” Maps of the locations where artists can choose to paint will be available at The Rye Arts Center. If you're in need of something to decorate your walls and are looking for an original piece of art, this is a great opportunity to do so.
