North of NYC North of NYC By Houlihan Lawrence By Houlihan Lawrence by

Yorktown is just 38 miles form New York City with forty square miles of rolling hills, farmland, residential areas and light industry. The north town line is the border of  Putnam County. To the east of Yorktown is Somers, Cortlandt is to the west and New Castle borders Yorktown on the south.

Though technically a town, Yorktown has diversified little-city economy of retail business service and municipal amenities, that still has a country feel. For example, Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center is a working crop farm and environmental educational center that offers programs on healthy and sustainable food production. From the highest point, you can see the The Empire State Bulding.

Yorktown's Parks and Recreation Department has a roster of activities year-round for every age group.  The town's facilities include a senior citizen center, bike, hiking and walking trails, two beautiful town pools, tennis courts, baseball fields, a sparkling lake with a life guard,  just to name a few. North County Trailway is a local favorite for bikers, walkers and runners. This trail run directly through Yorktown, where a quick bite to eat is literally steps away.
