Why battle the Friday or Sunday traffic on the LIE or standing on the LIRR for three hours when you can be poolside within minutes of leaving your office? Bedford, Pound Ridge, Katonah, North Salem, and Waccabuc offer a viable alternative to the Hamptons summer scene, and more people are starting to notice. The privacy and low-key vibe of the lower Hudson Valley are what draw plenty of bold-faced names to our neck of the woods. Here, you’ll find an easy commute, a great selection of homes, peaceful surroundings, and endless attractions.

Weekends are for relaxing, so leave the Hamptons hustle and bustle behind and find your summer Shangri-la right here in Northern Westchester.

    Nature

Nature lovers can take a hike at Bedford’s Arthur Ketchum Preserve where a well-worn path takes you past the Chapel in the Woods and the Beaver Dam River as well as Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, a 4,300-acre park with miles of trails. It's just a thirty-minute drive to some Westchester and Fairfield beaches or to the Hudson River’s marinas.

    Fresh Food

A favorite summer destination on Saturday mornings is the John Jay Farm Market in Katonah where local farmers, bakers, and artisans sell fresh fruit, produce, meats, fish, dairy products, baked goods, prepared foods, and handcrafted products. Bedford Hills and South Salem have their own farmer’s markets, as well.

    Live Music

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts offers outdoor musical performances throughout the summer. The 2017 season opens with A Night of Italian Opera and fills the air with the sweet sounds of folk, pop, classical, jazz, and more through the season finale on July 30.

    Fine Dining

Want to make last-minute reservations for dinner or even just drop in? Not possible in the Hamptons? Take a seat on Campagna’s patio at The Bedford Post Inn where the chef will grill your dinner to perfection. At Purdy’s Farmer & the Fish in North Salem, you can’t get more local than the food grown on their onsite farm. And the upscale country vibe and reliably palate-pleasing dishes at The Inn at Pound Ridge by Jean-Georges make it a local destination for anything from brunch to cocktails and dinner.
