Two years ago, Jim and Jen Vellano opened G. E. Brown in Bedford Village to serve an unmet need for early-morning coffee and a more extensive variety of family-friendly prepared foods. They brewed up cup after cup of Coffee Labs fresh-ground java and filled their renovated storefront in Bedford Village’s Arcade Building with dozens of grab-and-go options. And whoa, they’ve been swamped with business ever since!

The cooler is chock full of cold beverages, salads, and meals like Korean beef, mac and cheese, and cauliflower bulgogi that can be heated up at home. The counter display case boasts fresh pastries and sandwiches ranging from the ever-popular prosciutto, pecorino, and truffle honey on a baguette to a savory, open-faced avocado toast. Whether you are gluten-free, vegan, or an omnivore, G. E. Brown has something for everyone.

Named in memory of G.E. Brown, a 19th-century shop that once stood in the hamlet, the Vellano’s shop gives a nod to the past while addressing the needs of hungry, 21st-century families and professionals who pop in for a cup of Joe and lunch on-the-go.

While hot and iced caffeine flows from 7 am to 7 pm, manager Heather Trail says customers can also stock up on gourmet grocery items like burrata, hummus, guacamole, and ricotta as well as hostess gifts that range from entertainment-related cocktail napkins and chocolate covered espresso beans to more personal things, like soaps, salt scrub, and lotions.
