The Town of Bedford is located in the northeastern part of Westchester County, and contains the three hamlets of Bedford Hills, Bedford Village, and Katonah. Bedford is dedicated to preserving much of their land. In fact, there are several community organizations whose mission is to protect and preserve large portions of land in the Bedford and surrounding areas. Herein lies many of the reason to love Bedford.

    Westmoreland Sanctuary

    1. The Westmoreland Sanctuary is a 625-acre nature preserve with 8 miles of hiking trails, a variety of organized activities, and environmental education programs. Trails are open dawn to dusk
    2. Explore 4,315 acres at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Westchester County’s largest park. Take a brisk walk or a 5.6 mile hike; camping, fly fishing, and picnic areas are also available.
    3. Caramoor is the legacy of Walter and Lucie Rosen, who established the estate and built a great house as its centerpiece, filling it with treasures collected on their travels. Walter Rosen was the master planner, bringing to reality his dream of creating a place to entertain friends from around the world. Their legendary musical evenings were the seeds of today’s International Music Festival that is held annually on the estate.
    4. Two well-known restaurants call Bedford home: La Cremaillere is a charming French country restaurant, nestled in a 1750 white clapboard farmhouse. The Bedford Post Inn, a Relais & Chateaux property, features a 110-seat formal restaurant, The Farmhouse, and 50-seat bakery/café The Barn.
    5. For history and architecture buffs, the John Jay Homestead, where the first chief justice of the Supreme Court lived his last 28 years, is a restored 1820s estate furnished with original pieces. The home includes a gallery with rotating exhibits and 62 acres of woodland, meadows, and gardens on which to wander and picnic.
